I’m just getting comfortable with my Canon T4i and now we are facing the idea of a Canon T5i.
I’m not sure how much writing I’ll do on this camera yet, but I find the prospect of a much smaller camera interesting.

I wrote the book on the Canon T4i last year for Wiley. The T4i had a number of solid advances, although the sensor was still about the same as earlier versions. A couple of my favorite advances are the touch screen and HDR options in the 2012 version of the Rebel.
Will they cut back on some of the features found in the T4i in the new T5i version of the Canon Rebel?
As an active Detroit photographer I really need more durable equipment. So, although I may write about it, I don’t think I’ll purchase this version. Although the 5D is my work-horse camera, I’ve been using the Canon T4i for some of my studio work and I’ve been very happy with the results. The food shot below is a good example of an image taken with the Rebel.
If the new camera is smaller than the already small entry-level DSLR, this will change the current conversation. People are often asking if they should purchase the 6D or the T4i? If they the new Rebel camera is much smaller I think the difference will be much clearer. I have a feeling that is what Canon wants, and in my opinion will mark an end of an era.
The Rebel may no longer be the entry level camera of budding young photographers. Canon fans will need to look a little higher up the chain at a higher priced camera. I think a smaller Rebel will be the play thing of your more basic hobbyist or deemed the family vacation camera.
